Harrison Martin

Controls and Instrument Engineer, Australian Turntable Company, Bendigo

Harrison enjoyed electronics as a subject throughout school and was not sure how to expand the interest into a pathway. When it came to selecting subjects for Year 11, Harrison’s English teacher suggested he consider electrical engineering as a future career. Harrison went on to complete a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Deakin University.

Harrison is now a controls and instrument engineer at Australian Turntable Company. In his role, he can interpret customer requirements, plan how to approach each task, design all the control systems and finally create or alter a program to allow the turntable to be operated correctly.

What subjects did you study at school?

In year 12 I studied physics, math methods, specialist math, and then completed a Certificate II in Embedded Technology. I went on to study a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Deakin University in 2021.

How important was talking about what job you wanted with family and friends?

Somewhat important as they do have some side knowledge of what I was wanting to do. Placement to complete my degree was found through a friend of my mum, who had connections with industry.

In your current role, what are the top three things you enjoy and take pride in?

I enjoy successfully fixing problems, designing something new and learning new things that are relevant.

Want your school to be involved?
