Hannah Wellington

Graduate accountant, Strategem Tax & Accounting, Bendigo

Hannah is an intermediate accountant at Strategem Tax & Accounting, where she specialises in tax returns and financial statements.

Throughout her senior years Hannah felt conflicted between her passions for the health and business industries. After completing work experience at the hospital, Hannah realised this industry wasn’t for her. She then focused on a career in the business industry.

After completing year 12, Hannah attended Australian Catholic University, where she completed a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in accounting and business management.

Whilst Hannah is a quiet achiever, she is driven to succeed and support those within her workplace.

What did you learn from year 10 work experience?

I did my work experience in a health setting as this is what I was interested in at the time. I realised after the week that this wasn’t the career path I wanted to follow.

How did you get your current job?

I was required by a subject at university to complete a placement. I had a family friend connection who worked at Strategem and so we took the opportunity to contact them. Through this, I completed a part placement, some casual work and then was offered a full time graduate accountant position.

What challenges have you faced throughout your career journey?

I was unsure as to whether I wanted a job in the health field or in business. I found particularly in year 12, that I enjoyed business subjects better and so that's why I chose the business path.

There were moments I felt as though what I was studying at university wasn't enough or didn't relate to what I actually wanted to do. However, I kept persisting with classes to get the best outcome possible.

It helped having a strong support network at home which meant I could speak to someone if I was ever struggling.
