WORK PLACEMENTS

Secondary students are looking for a wide range of opportunities to experience the world of work before they decide on a career pathway. The Goldfields LLEN offers a range of tailored work placement options that benefit both students and businesses alike.

Our average number of facilitated student placements per year:

TYPES OF WORK PLACEMENTS

Structured Workplace Learning is hands-on, on the job training, during which a secondary student studying VET or VCAL has the opportunity to develop their work skills and understand employer expectations.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are completed part time while the young person continues their schooling. Government incentives are available to employers who take on a school based apprentice or trainee.

Work Experience is the short-term placement of a secondary student with employers providing insight into an industry and workplace of interest. This includes volunteer, community and event experience. Students undertaking work experience are there to observe and learn, rather than undertake activities.

EMPLOYERS

There are many benefits of offering work placement, including:

Engaging with the next generation of workers who are pre-skilled and immediately productive.
The opportunity to enhance your business’s image as a community asset
Developing a realistic understanding of employer expectations and entry requirements for young people.
Meaningful input into a young school leaver’s journey.
The opportunity to pass on valuable knowledge and skills.
Involvement in a unique industry/school connection.
Exposure to current school courses and student achievement standards.
A boost to staff morale and training skills while working with students.
Students are covered by Workcover for the duration of the placement.
