Great Young Minds Showcased

Students from six Central Victorian schools combined to participate in four programs as part of the Mindshop Excellence program in partnership with the Goldfields LLEN and the Bendigo Tech School. Mindshop excellence has engaged with central Victorian schools for many years.

Mindshop Excellence fast tracks the development of young minds through a one-week employer hosted work experience program aimed at fostering skills such as team work and self-confidence. Acting as company ‘executives’ for the week, students are given an issue by the host company and using powerful problem-solving tools, find solutions to the issue as a team.

Year ten students from Crusoe College and Weeroona College spent a week with Bendigo Tech School where they created a new tagline, an interior feature and an animation of the new school. Chris Mason, who is the National Mindshop Excellence Facilitator, said students had all been contributing in their own ways, with some students surprising him with their ideas and the potential that shone through their actions.

Students from Bendigo South East College were placed at Bendigo Health where they worked on an EPR project and a strategy to move all the records to the new digital database. Eaglehawk Secondary College spent the week at Keech 3D where they were tasked with redesigning and creating content for the new Keech 3D newsletter and got to make a 3D printed ornament! Maryborough Education Centre and Highview Christian Community College spent the week at True Foods where they created new a marketing plan for the Simpsons Pantry product.

At the conclusion of the week, each group presented their project to their host company, joined by other business leaders, schools and parents at the La Trobe Art Institute, accompanied by a brief presentation by Bendigo and Adelaide Bank employee, Josh Pell, who emphasized the value of making the most of every opportunity presented, even if it was not exactly one’s choice.

The students did a fantastic job of presenting their finished projects to the audience and afterwards each group was praised by their hosts for their hard work and fantastic contributions to their workplaces.
